Beyond Pritikin: A Total Nutrition Program For Rapid Weight Loss, Longevity, & Good Health Review

Beyond Pritikin: A Total Nutrition Program For Rapid Weight Loss, Longevity, and Good Health

I have read every diet book out there. When I found the ivillage site and started reading the Fat Flush Board, I figured the Fat Flush Diet must be creating some pretty dramatic results. I bought Gittleman's first book BEYOND PRITIKIN to follow her program exactly and - wow - the Fat Flush started working on the very first day. I did FAT FLUSH for 6 weeks and then went to her other eating program which added in some carbs. I recommend this book to everyone. I am not hungry and have no cravings but best of all I have absolutely no desire to go back to my old eating habits.

Meal by Meal: 365 Daily Meditations for Finding Balance Through Mindful Eating Review

Meal by Meal: 365 Daily Meditations for Finding Balance Through Mindful Eating

I was familiar with the work of Donald Altman from his earlier 'Art of the Inner Meal' and was impressed how his writing has found a fresh and densely pragmatic new form. 'Meal by Meal' is a fluid read of inspiring quotes coupled with practical insights by the author. This book is extremely handsome, a beautifully laid out composition making this both useful and pleasurable to read. If you have the discipline to read a page at a time, you will find this helpful day by day. I personally had trouble putting it down and would read a month at a time... but the suggestions are valid and useful on a second slower read. Worthwhile investment for someone wishing to calm their compulsive behavior for a more reflective perspective.

I hosted a bridal shower luncheon for my soon-to-be sister-in-law and wanted to make a great impression. I'm pretty good at planning events, but I'm lousy at making food, so was in a quandary until the 30-Minute-Menu cookbook saved me! In it I found the perfect menu for my luncheon, start to finish, and it was a huge hit! With the timings spelled out, I was able to coordinate the entire event seamlessly. No waiting, no soggy sandwiches, no missing ingredients or last-minute dashes to the store. And Dawn has a great knack for finding flavors that combine well together. What a great tool!

The Game On Diet: Kick Your Friend's Butt While Shrinking Your Own Review

The Game On Diet: Kick Your Friend's Butt While Shrinking Your Own

I've been trying to get in shape and lose weight for a couple of years now without being consistent. I heard about this game from my sister and organized a competition with my family - we're all headed to Maui in a couple of months so now we truly have a reason to get in shape. We're at the beginning of week 3 and I have already seen a difference on the scale, in my energy, and in my attitude. The rules they set for eating and exercise are probably things you already know but can't find motivation to follow through with - what the GAME ON! game provides is motivation. Also, they allow a meal off, a day off, and 100 calories a day of whatever you want, so you don't feel like you are in jail or missing out too much.
Changes:
-I look forward to my 5-a-day "sanctioned meals" and now that I'm in the habit of doing this consistently (which I never would've done on my own, without a team and competition), I'm going to keep this up as a lifestyle change.
-I will make sure I get my exercise in so I don't let my team down - whether it's doing an exercise DVD video at 11 PM at night or making myself go for a run when I don't really feel like it. If I was only going to affect myself by not exercising, chances are I'd probably skip working out. It makes a major difference to have teammates counting on you.
-Since everyone is forced to "communicate", we send group emails out and they are all very motivating, it's great to hear everyone brag about their accomplishments and stuggles, and it's a forum to brag about what you've done and feel good about you've accomplished.
-The competition gives me motivation to set myself up for success by shopping once a week and only buying sanctioned foods. No more potato chips in my grocery cart!
Failing to plan is planning to fail! This will work for you if you are organized, like competition, and can work within structure, rules, games etc. If you're anti any of these things, it most likely won't work for you.
Regarding the swearing she uses in the book, my friends and I talk like truck drivers so it didn't bother me at all. In fact, to me, her "language" makes perfect sense ;)
Good luck!
P.S. If you'd like me to email you a copy of the scoreboard we're using, comment on this review that you'd like one and I'll shoot it over to you.

The Game On! Diet is not a diet. It's a bold new approach to fitness that turns the latest, smartest, most successful health science into a fun, fierce, and exhilarating game. Developed by Az Ferguson, to help Grey's Anatomy writer Krista Vernoff shed forty pounds of postpregnancy weight, it is the ideal program for busy people who should be working out but have a thousand good excuses not to. Az keeps you motivated and Krista keeps you laughing as they show you how to organize opposing teams, set goals, and compete to earn points for daily exercise, healthy meal plans, and positive lifestyle changes. With The Game On! Diet, the process of losing weight, for the first time ever, is actually fun. After all, what's better than a bikini body . . . and bragging rights? Get out there and lose . . . to win! Game on!
