Tandoor Chef Chicken Tikka Masala, 10-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 12) Review

This is simply the best frozen chicken tikka masala I've found--far better than Ethnic Gourmet or other competing brands. I eat this at least once a week. The creamy sauce is great with rice, the chicken is juicy, and the spicing is just right. Most Indian restaurants don't even produce as good a chicken tikka masala as this one.

Kitchens of India Ready to Eat Dinner Variety Pack, 10 Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6) Review

Great sampler packet. I have tried other brands of ready to eat Indian foods such as Jyoti and Tasty Bite. This brand compares favorably and I do plan on buying this exact product again. It is not overly hot but is spicey - so while it may be a bit much for some children, adults should do fine.
As these types of vegetarian items (or near veggie since some of the sampler includes paneer cheese which is like cubes of tofu but with a cheesy taste), are highly pureed in texture, except when there are beans, they can be used as sauces over rice, shell pasta, quinoa, couscous, polenta, potatoes, etc. The bean ones could be heated and used in lieu of soup or chili for lunch with a crusty french bread for instance. Would pair great with a fresh salad.
Product is excellent for those looking for all those great spices like cumin, curry, tumeric, peppers, and the like. Also qualifies as a whole food.
Highly portable since packaged in tear away foil packets which are light weight and could be eaten out of them in a pinch if don't mind your fingers getting a bit messy reaching in and out of the foil to spoon out the food. I don't recommend trying to eat with a fork as even the bean ones are in sauces. Foil packages are not for the microwave but product eats fine at room temperature. Great for camping, picnics, road trips, etc.

Kitchens of India Ready To Eat Mirch Ka Salan, Mild Chili Pepper Curry Dinner, 10-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6) Review

Kitchens of India Ready To Eat Mirch Ka Salan, Mild Chili Pepper Curry Dinner, 10-Ounce Boxes (Pack of 6)

Mirch (or mirchi) ka salan is a dish from Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, in southern India, often served with the local biryani, and it is intended to be a very wet curry.
Overall, this is another winner among the pre-packaged Indian meals: a mildly spicy, beautifully-colored, creamy-textured sauce for rice or bread made with a base of ground peanuts, sesame seeds, and almonds. The flavor is very complex: the onion, tamarind, and coconut give it a slight sweetness; the garlic, ginger, tamarind, and curry leaves add a bit of tangy bite; and the large chunks of chili peppers lend a very mild heat. I like to add cayenne powder to increase the heat a bit. It is also good with a few raisins and almonds sprinkled on top and I have added whole cubanelle peppers steamed in the microwave to bulk it up into a complete meal when served with brown basmati rice.
The quality of this product is similar to what might be found in a standard Indian buffet restaurant here in the U.S. Some people may not like the flavor of some typical Indian spices, especially coriander, which has a soapy taste to certain palates, but fans of Indian food who like coriander should enjoy eating this.
There are no preservatives and the mirch ka salan is vegetarian but not vegan as it contains some ghee. As is typical of these retort-packaged Indian meals, it is high in sodium and fat. As others have noted, it is easy to pour off a spoonful or so of oil before serving.
Nutrition facts:
Note that each packet is 2.5 servings but realistically is the right amount for one or possibly two people depending on what it is served with so adjust accordingly:

In addition to lowering the fat and sodium, it would be nice if Kitchens of India would shift to printing or labeling the foil pouch and not enclosing it in an individual box for these case sales in order to reduce unnecessary waste. The package also shows whole pepppers, and while there are large chunks, they certainly don't look like the illustration.
The sodium and fat reduce the rating to four stars, even though the texture and flavor warrant five stars.

Weight Watchers Take-Out Tonight : 150+ Restaurant Favorites to Make at Home--All 8 POINTS or Less

This may be the best book published under the Weight Watchers' umbrella. It is a wonderful collection of favorite recipes from eight culinary genres. Chinese, Mexican, Indian, Thai, Italian, Greek, Japanese and Deli cuisine is featured. I love food (that's my problem) and delights such as General Tso's Chicken, Chicken Saltimbocca, Spanakopita, Shrimp Pad Thai and Moo Goo Gai Pan are now healthy, tasty and guiltless. You will not believe that these recipes are all 8 points or less. What is even more remarkable is that the family or guests will not suspect that these recipes came from Weight Watchers. This is a great leap forward for Weight Watchers as it makes the most popular restaurant meals not only available in your home, but healthy and delicious.
The book, unlike some earlier Weight Watchers' cookbooks, is very well laid out. The chapters are color coded and the index is arranged by cooking cuisine, with the recipes listed alphabetically. There are many beautiful illustrations as well. Many of the recipes come with a box called Clever Cook's Tips that give the user some useful suggestions, techniques and recipe substitutions.
You don't have to be a Weight Watchers' client to appreciate this book. The recipes are just good, dieting or not! Buy this one...you won't be disappointed.
