Dr. McDougall's Right Foods Vegan Split Pea Soup with Barley, 2.5-Ounce Cups (Pack of 6) Review

We all know no packaged soup--canned or cuppa--is gonna be as delicious as the fresh, home-made stuff. Still, convenience is worth a bit of sacrifice, for those rushed or lazy days. I ordered this because 1. I like split pea, it's like a filling, comfort soup and 2 I wanted to try a vegan soup (no ham or the other stuff that they usually put in pea soup).
I didn't expect much. I expected ADEQUATE, no more.
Well, surprise me. This was TASTY. I am very pleased with this dried/cup soup. If you follow instructions precisely, it should come out with a terrific texture (not too runny, not too thick) and a nice pea flavor. My only quibble is that it's on the salty side (though not eye-crossingly so).
I would definitely get more of this. I'm gonna go through this case pretty fast, I can tell you.
I'm ready to try more of McDougall's vegan soups. If others are as good or better than the Vegan Split Pea with Barley, then I'm in for some nice convenience lunches.
Each container has 240 calories (that's considered two servings, but please, who eats just half?), 10 grams of fiber, 16 grams of protein, 1 gram of fat (no trans fats), and 42 carbs. The sodium count is 600mg. 24% of Vitamin A requirement.
Yum.

Take some to work for bartering favors from co-workers! You'll probably be shocked when you taste this soup. No other canned or dried split pea soup tastes so close to a home-made, long-simmered soup. If you like split pea soup that's rich and thick, with just a bit of smoked ham flavor, you've got to try ours. We've added pea halves and a few bits of soft barley, to make it all the more hearty and satisfying. A tasty, High-fiber, no cholesterol, and protein treat.

Sleep On It: Prepare Delicious Meals the Night Before That You Can Pop In the Oven the Next Day Review

Sleep On It: Prepare Delicious Meals the Night Before That You Can Pop In the Oven the Next Day

Gordon, the Innkeeper of Nantucket House in Chatham on Cape Cod, has collected recipes from Inns and B & B's around the country that can be prepared the night before and cooked the next day.
Naturally many of these are breakfast or brunch oriented and most are baked, like Spiced Pear French Toast, Cinnamon Crunch Coffee Cake, Seafood Brunch Strata, Bacon and Egg Lasagna, Easy Wild Rice Quiche.
A short appetizer chapter includes cheese balls and dips as well as chicken wings and Mushroom Rolls and for dinner there's Sweet Potato Casserole, Salmon Mexicana, or Baked Barbecued Beef Brisket.
Some recipes use shortcut ingredients like canned soups or frozen bread dough and the variety of sources means there's something to appeal to everyone. This is a folksy book which will chiefly appeal to those who like to entertain for breakfast or brunch.

Hormel Compleats Turkey & Dressing, 10-Ounce Microwavable Bowls (Pack of 6) Review

I acknowledge all the things said about this dinner by the previous reviewer. However, my interpretation is different-- I loved it. For one thing, I suspected it had MSG. Why? Because it was so delicious. I love MSG, no matter how bad a rap it's gotten over the past few years.
This is comfort food, plain and simple. No, it's not healthy. If you're sensitive to salt or heavy preservatives, leave it on the shelf. I suspect there's really no way for them to make something that doesn't need refrigeration without preservatives anyway. Bottom live, I adored this and the chicken noodle variety, and avidly look forward to trying some of the other chicken varieties (I don't do beef or pork).
